Just hours after the ‘sudden’ death of the 37-year-old ABC producer, his wife was arrested

The wife of an ABC producer who died suddenly last month was arrested in connection with her actions on the night of his death.

Veronica Tejere was charged with two counts of endangering children. Diversity.

“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce that our friend and colleague Dax Tehera passed away suddenly last night from a heart attack,” ABC President Kim Godwin wrote in a Dec. 24 memo to staff. Hollywood Reporter.

According to Variety, a New York Police Department spokesman said that around 11:00 p.m. on the night Dax Tehera died, police received a report that there were “street children” at 50 Vanderbilt Avenue in Manhattan.

According to Variety, the address is the Yale Club, a members-only hotel.

The investigation “revealed that a 2-year-old girl and a 5-month-old girl were left alone in a hotel room for an extended period of time,” the NYPD said in a statement, according to Variety.

As a result, Veronica Tejere was issued a warrant to appear in court on charges of “an act that harms a child” and was ordered to appear in court on the charges at a later date, according to Variety.

Veronica Tejera disputed the allegations in a statement to New York Post.

She said that she and her husband were absent when he passed out. She went with him to the hospital and arranged for babysitting.

“I asked both a close friend and my parents to rush to my children’s hotel room to take care of them while I watched them through the camera. The hotel did not allow my friend to enter and instead called the NYPD,” she said.

“We had two cameras aimed at my children when they were sleeping and I kept a close eye on them when I was away from them. As long as the girls are not hurt, I understand that it was a bad decision,” she said.

Veronica Tejera said charges were filed heartbreak time for her and her family.

“My family and I are devastated by the sudden passing of Dax. He was left with a heartbroken family and two daughters whom he loved with all his heart. Our family has experienced a terrible tragedy. I respectfully request privacy while my children and I mourn the death of Dax,” the statement said.

Dax Tehera joined ABC News in 2017 and has been producing This Week since 2020.
