It’s Chiefs Parade Day, Kansas City! All you need to know.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The big party has begun, following the Chiefs’ second Super Bowl title in four years!

A parade celebrating NFL champions will begin at noon today. We will be live on KCTV5 and will also be streaming the parade and rally in its entirety online at KCTV5.com and on our Facebook page.

Here’s a rundown of everything you need to know:

TIME/LOCATION

The parade will begin at noon on Sixth Street and Grand Boulevard, continuing along Grand until heading west to Pershing Road. It will culminate at Union Station across from the World War 1 Memorial’s north lawn.

The rally at Union Station is expected to start around 1:45pm

ROAD CLOSURES

The street along the parade route began closing on Tuesday. Roads along the route will reopen on Wednesday at 7pm

Roads running east and west of Grand are closed between Walnut and McGee Streets. Stretching from Berkley’s riverfront all the way south to Pershing Road.

Union Station is also closed from public access until Thursday at 6:00am

City officials announced that vehicular traffic will be allowed across Grand Boulevard at 7th Street/Admiral Blvd, 13th Street, Truman Road and 18th Street until 9:00 am Wednesday.

Pedestrians will be able to cross Grand at 9th Street, 13th Street, Truman Road, 18th Street and 20th Street.

HOW CAN I GET THERE?

There are several public transport options to reach the city center on the other side of the metro.

KCATA offers round-trip service from five locations. The Park and Ride shuttles will operate from 7:30am to 11am, and then again from 12pm to 4:30pm. Riders should know that they must return to the drop off point for their specific shuttle and be prepared for wait times of up to 45 minutes at popular locations.

  • HyVee Arena / West Bottom (map) – 1800 Genessee St, Kansas City, MO 64102; Dropoff and Shuttle Pickup Event: 18th & Troost
  • Swope Park/Zoo (map) — 6800 Zoo Dr, Kansas City, MO 64132; Event pickup and shuttle pickup: 31 and Gillham
  • Oak Park Mall — 11149 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66214 (map) (95th and Neiman Road Park & ​​Ride location); Event Pickup & Shuttle Pickup: 25th & Southwest Boulevard
  • 47th and State Metrocenters (map) — 4601 State Ave, Kansas City, KS 66102; Event pickup and shuttle pickup: 31 and Gillham

The unified government also offers free shuttle service to downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Parade shuttles will be via (KCK Transit Metrocenter, 47th and State Avenue): 7:30am – 11am

Fans can board buses labeled “Green” to the designated parade drop-off point at 31st & Gillham. The buses will return from the parade between 12:00 and 16:30

City leaders have asked attendees to car-share if they are unable to use public transportation.

The National WWI Museum, Union Station, Crown Center, and other area lots will charge for parking, but these are expected to fill up quickly.

Scooters and bicycles will not be able to circulate in closed areas.

PUBLIC SAFETY/CHILDREN GATHERING AREAS

Nineteen law enforcement officers will assist in parade security, and more than 200 medical personnel will be stationed at various locations along the route.

Seven child reunification places have been established for anyone separated from a parent or group.

The KC Streetcar service will be replaced with two RideKC Bus Links starting at 6am. The Union Station, City Market, River Market North and River Market West trolley stops will be closed to service.

ADA ACCESSIBILITY

A space in the Crown Center has been designated for wheelchairs and ADA accessibility. Space will be limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. There will be ASL interpreters in that area.

PSA FOR PARTICIPANTS
  • Public consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
  • Cell phone service can be extremely limited due to crowd size.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to walk more than you expect.
  • Plan ahead in case you become separated from your group.
  • Make sure children have contact information for their parents or guardians.
  • An area at the Crown Center will be designated for people with disabilities.
  • Drones are prohibited.
