Irving Park shooting incident Tuesday afternoon leaves Chicago officer seriously injured
Chicago, Ill. – The Chicago Police Department is conducting an investigation after an off-duty officer was shot in the face in the Irving Park area on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
According to Total Traffic, the first report of gunfire was received at 3:15 p.m. near the intersection of West Addison Street and North Elston Avenue in Irving Park.
According to a fire department source, an off-duty officer was shot in the face. According to fire officials, the cop was brought to a local hospital in red (serious-to-critical) condition.
The police have cordoned off a significant portion of the street in the neighborhood, and officers are still on the scene. Between Addison and Kimball, Elston is stopped in both directions as police investigate the shooting.
A second incident was also reported by police at Lawrence Avenue and the Kennedy Expressway, where both the entrance and exit ramps on the outbound side of the expressway are closed pending the outcome of the inquiry.
