Iowa man charged with multiple car thefts
FREMONT COUNTY, Iowa (Nebraska) – A southwestern Iowa man faces multiple charges related to stolen vehicles.
According to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, in February 2023, the sheriff’s office spotted a car at an address on Park Street in Tabora, Iowa that was reported to have been stolen from neighboring Atchison County, Missouri.
Deputies searched the address where the alleged stolen vehicle was located and allegedly found evidence related to other burglaries and stolen vehicles that occurred in Fremont and Pottawattam counties in Iowa, as well as in Atchison County in Missouri.
The sheriff’s office then issued an arrest warrant for 52-year-old Jesse Sump of Tabor.

The following month, on March 5, MPs were notified of a harassment allegedly involving Sump on a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle. The chase was entering Page County from Atchison County.
Page County deputies eventually found the motorcycle at an abandoned farm southwest of Coin, Iowa. Fremont County K-9 was dispatched and Sump surrendered to authorities.
Sump was arrested without further incident and charged with first, second and fifth degree theft, third offense of possession of the controlled substance methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fugitives on a valid felony warrant from Atchison County, Missouri. . Authorities say more charges are pending.
Sump is under a $10,000 cash/guarantee bond in Fremont County and $100,000 cash/guarantee from Missouri.
