In a small Missouri town just northeast of Kansas City, a woman escaped and screamed for help over the weekend, potential rape case

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. — This weekend, authorities in a small Missouri town just northeast of Kansas City began their investigation into an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault that was discovered when an emaciated woman escaped and cried for help.

Friday morning, Clay County authorities accused a man with rape, kidnapping, and violence after a woman fled his home in Excelsior Springs. She was hospitalized on Friday in stable condition and then reunited with her family.

“When we made contact with her, it was evident that she had been detained against her will for an extended length of time,” said Excelsior Springs police lieutenant Ryan Dowdy.

The woman told police that there may have been two additional victims, but authorities have not said whether additional victims have been discovered. Investigators have continued to search the residence from which the lady escaped, and on Saturday, Excelsior Springs Police Chief Greg Dull pleaded for the public’s patience as officers sort evidence.

Dull stated that additional charges could be filed based on the evidence uncovered by investigators.

Excelsior Springs is located around 30 miles north of Kansas City.
