“I love this city”: Lincoln mayoral candidate Suzanne Geist talks about the campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska) — Suzanne Geist, a state senator and mayoral candidate, is working to build community trust as she campaigns in Lincoln.

Geist, who announced her candidacy for mayor last September, sat down with Channel 8 to discuss her plans.

“I think the most important thing the community needs to know is this is a place I’ve called home for over 20 years,” she said. “I love this city, I love the opportunities there are”.

Public safety is a hot topic between every candidate, and Geist says her experience in the Nebraska Legislature has prepared her to work with law enforcement agencies.

“It’s not just making sure they’re well paid, not just giving a verbal agreement that I support law enforcement or I support our first responders, it goes deeper,” she said. “I have a record in the Legislature standing for law enforcement, even when others find it hard to do.”

Another much publicized problem was the streets of Lincoln.

“What I would do in my administration is really dig into the budget and take a look at things that we can rearrange and emphasize spending on the streets, just like any other household budget,” Geist said.

Channel 8 also spoke to incumbent Leirion Gaylor Baird and Stan Parker, another mayoral candidate.
