Husker basketball player Sam Griesel will host the blood drive on Friday

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska) — A Nebraska men’s basketball player is organizing a blood drive on Friday after experiencing a scary situation himself.

Sam Griesel, a senior guard with the Huskers, says he suffered a bleeding stomach ulcer in November of 2021 while playing at North Dakota State. The Lincoln East grad credits a four-hour blood transfusion with his ability to return to the field just a week later.

“Through my experience, I have learned of the shortage of blood donations we have across the country,” Griesel said in a press release. “I was so grateful that someone took the time out to give blood so I could feel better. I’d like to use my platform to help spread awareness of this issue.

Friday’s blood drive takes place from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium’s West Stadium Club. To register and donate visit here.
