Hearts of Hope Baby Shower helps homeless mothers
OMAHA, Neb. (Nebraska) — The Open House Mission has extended a helping hand to homeless subway mothers by giving them their own baby shower over the weekend.
The annual Hearts of Hope Baby Shower collected donations of strollers, diapers, rompers and other baby essentials generously donated by members of the community.
The event also provided an opportunity for donors to learn more about how they can help mothers in the area after a tour of the Lydia House.
“We will distribute them over the next 12 months so that when the mother suddenly finds herself homeless, she has what she needs. “50% of our women and children experience domestic violence when they enter our doors so many times that they only come with clothes on their backs,” said Candice Gregory. “We know we can meet their basic needs and are working on ways to learn from this experience and prevent it from happening again.”
if you’d like to donate, visit the Open House Mission website for a list of distribution points.
