Green tea has been proven to “significantly” reduce visceral fat without other dietary changes

However, replacing your regular drink with green tea can provide significant benefits for visceral fat.
According to a study published in the journal Obesity, this tea blend can help burn fat and also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The research team decided to test the antioxidants in the green drink on humans.
Moreover, the usual dietary and physical habits of these participants were maintained throughout the trial.
Green tea contains a group of antioxidants known as polyphenols, which make up up to 30 percent of its dry weight.
Most of these are flavanols, commonly known as catechins.
Catechins have led various studies, and evidence has emerged that plant-based treats may have some tricks up their sleeves when it comes to weight loss.

In addition to catechins, green tea also contains caffeine, which is considered a stimulant that helps burn fat, increase energy, and improve physical performance.
With this in mind, the research team recruited 270 Japanese men and women to observe the effect of fat loss.
In the study, participants took a green tea extract containing 583 mg of catechins (catechin group) or 96 mg of catechins (control group) per day.
The team used a double-blind approach, which means that neither the participants nor the researchers knew what treatment or intervention the participants were receiving until the clinical trial was completed.

The results showed that in the group that took more catechins, the area of visceral fat decreased more.
What’s more, the study found that the hot drink “significantly over time” reduced stubborn belly fat.
Catechins also cause a decrease in systolic blood pressure and “bad” cholesterol, which are considered harbingers of heart disease.
Interestingly, all of these positive effects were observed despite participants sticking to their normal lifestyle.
However, it is important to note that most studies, including this one, use green tea extract instead of the regular drink.
This is important because green tea extract is usually more effective than a cup of green tea.
“That’s not to say you can’t match the content of green tea extract to a drink, you just need to drink more,” Holland and Barrett explained.
Dr. Tim Bond of the Tea Advisory Group shared that four cups of tea a day should be enough to get things done. However, he recommended pairing green tea with a healthy diet and exercise.
