Grand Island teenager arrested following vehicle theft with dog inside
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (Nebraska) – A Grand Island teenager was arrested Sunday night after stealing a vehicle with a dog in the back seat.
According to GIPD, the incident occurred in the car park of Coffin’s Corner petrol station on North Eddy Street at about 9.50pm. Police spotted the vehicle twice after the crash, but the 15-year-old teenager escaped both times.
GIPD said the victim had also left his cell phone in the car. About two hours after the incident, the owner managed to get through to the teenager using that stolen phone. The teenager then left the dog at the victim’s home and abandoned the vehicle a few blocks away.
Police were able to locate the young man with the help of a K-9. The teenager is currently in a juvenile detention center on multiple charges.
