Glow Big Red’s donations to UNL are already ahead of schedule

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska) — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glow Big Red fundraiser kicked off Wednesday — and time is running out to donate.

Glow Big Red is an annual event where anyone can help support a variety of university departments, clubs, and students in need of financial help.

“Those donations continue to help us get the technology, the microphones, the transmitters, the audio receivers to send into the airwaves in Lincoln,” said Alex Neill, a student who works for the college radio station, KRNU. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the community and us to partner with each other to promote each other and just be Lincoln, Nebraska.”

The Afrikan People’s Union also said the donations are a great way for the group to stay active around Lincoln.

The union also uses the money to reach more students on campus through study nights and other campus activities.

Edajah Aden, vice president of the group, said they used the money to give back to local churches and the Food Bank of Lincoln and visit community centers.

“We try to reach out to our community as much as possible and give back,” Treasurer Cameron Cannon said. “Glow Big Red is a really good opportunity to reach out to all of the donors who are generous enough to give us enough money so we can continue to do our outreach and connect students.”

The fundraiser is open until noon on Thursday.

Last year, the university raised about $600,000.

In the first 10 hours of this year’s fundraiser, it raised over $360,000.
