Gas explosion in New York: One killed, nine injured, including police officers

A gas explosion that caused a fire and partial collapse of a building in New York injured nine people and killed one, local media reported.

According to firefighters who took part in extinguishing the fire, five police officers were among the injured.

A spokesman for the fire department said the incident took place on a street in the Bronx, while police said a 77-year-old woman had been pronounced dead on the spot.

The investigation is ongoing.
