Full moon tonight; Sunday hot again
The first day of the hottest stretch came Saturday afternoon for most of the state, but it was particularly hot in southeast Nebraska. Highs near Falls City hit the mid-50s, while Lincoln recorded a high of 50°F just before about 3 PM. A more detailed look at the statewide highs can be found below:
Mild temperatures were ~13° above normal which will contribute to a warmer evening. Despite clear skies, it will take some time for temperatures to dip into the 30s at night. The lows will drop to the average 20 degrees and above before we warm up again on Sunday.
The next full moon of the year officially arrives by 12:28pm (daytime) on Sunday, so it will be full to the naked eye on both Saturday and Sunday evenings. The best weather to see it appears to be Saturday night, with mostly clear skies before the clouds come back to play on Sunday night.
This full moon, the only full moon in February, is also known as the “snow moon.”
Once again, heat and sunshine continue to set the trend well into the weekend, making Sunday another day to go outside. The winds will be calmer later in the day.
The mild temperatures, above normal for this time of year, should stay with us for most of next week as well. We first have a small chance of isolated rain on Monday, before a better chance of precipitation comes Wednesday through Thursday. With that system still on its way out, there could be even more forecast changes as we get closer.
