Founner Park murder investigation after Lincoln man was found shot to death

GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska (Nebraska) — A Lincoln man was found shot to death in a stable in Fonner Park.

Grand Island Police and the Grand Island Fire Department called a stable on Stolley Park Road at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday following a report of an unconscious man. They found the body of 62-year-old Todd Scherer of Lincoln. Police said Scherer had an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.

Shortly thereafter, police arrested Logan Horse Hunts, 20, of Wounded Knee, South Dakota, after finding him sleeping in another gear room in the same barn. GIPD Captain Dean Elliot said he was sent to the Hall County Jail for the murder. Police recovered a gun believed to be the murder weapon.

Captain Elliot said the motive is still unclear.

Fonner Park CEO Chris Kotulak declined to comment, saying that Fonner Park employees express sympathy for Scherer’s family.

Elliot said the Grand Island Fire Department, Kearney Police, Nebraska Racing and Gaming employees and the Hall County Attorney’s Office were assisting in the investigation.
