Former Texas officer, past member of the Denton PD, sentenced to decade in prison for downloading child porn at work

DALLAS, Texas – A former Denton police officer was sentenced to more than ten years in jail for child pornography possession.

David Schoolcraft was arrested in March of last year and pled guilty in December.

Federal prosecutors allege that the 39-year-old officer was discovered downloading and sharing child pornographic material while at the Denton police headquarters and at his Argyle, Texas, residence, north of Fort Worth.

Prosecutors say he then admitted using a social media program on his cellphone to exchange sexually graphic photographs and videos of juveniles, including some depicting children who were chained and sexually abused by adults.

“Schoolcraft breached his oath as a police officer and betrayed the trust of our community by taking delight in observing children being sexually abused and hurt, rather than protecting them. Although no term will compensate for the suffering he caused, this sentence should serve as a warning that the Eastern District of Texas will not tolerate such conduct “U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston stated.

“The details of this case are disturbing not only because they involve the dissemination of material abusing children, but also because the culprit was a police officer who was meant to serve and protect his community,” said Matthew DeSarno, the FBI’s Special Agent in Charge in Dallas.

Schoolcraft served 15 years as a Denton police officer.

After his arrest, he was placed on leave and subsequently sacked.
