Food shortage impacts State Fair of Texas
DALLAS, Texas – On Friday, the Texas State Fair will begin, and the same food scarcity that has been affecting the restaurant business may effect some of the fair’s culinary options.
According to vendors, fair organizers advised them to acquire supplies early.
Everything, including cutlery, paper plates, and even chicken, is scarcer.
Winter Family Concessions’s Christie Erpillo reports that their food supplier has increased costs five or six times this year.
The group has been discussing methods to rework its menu while still providing fairgoers with the “whole experience.”
“We are being imaginative. Some of our products are obtainable, and we know we can obtain them. We are reusing with other products. Therefore, you can order a Mexican Pizza, a burrito bowl, or street tacos, because we are repurposing the same product in multiple ways “explained Erpillo.
Winter Family Concessions is the original fairground vendor of funnel cakes.
They claim they loaded up on funnel cake mix in advance, and it is the only menu item about which they are not concerned.
Other retailers have been stockpiling goods.
“If you’ve ever been to a fair, you know that the French fries and fried Oreos are served in these small containers. These are the vessels. People enjoy being able to enter and consume meals from these boats, but they will be in high demand. Consequently, thousands of units will fly off the shelves “Brent Reaves, co-owner of Smokey John’s BBQ, stated as much. “Now is the time to get them. We’ve been prepared. We’ve spent months working on it.”
The Texas State Fair begins on September 30 and concludes on October 23.
