Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ opponent Charlie Crist is confident defeating DeSantis in the state’s gubernatorial election
Florida Democratic Representative Charlie Crist, who recently won the state’s Democratic primary for governor, is casting the race as a battle between love and hatred.
“Ron DeSantis WILL lose this November. It’s a story as old as time: Hate will lose, love will win,” Crist tweeted on Friday.
Crist stated earlier Florida week that he does not want the votes of DeSantis supporters, implying that they are filled with hatred.
This Thursday, during an interview on MSNBC, Crist stated to the governor, “He is on the battlefield of hate, I am on the battlefield of love.”
In another tweet on Friday, Crist claimed that DeSantis is taking away people’s liberty. “Don’t be fooled by Ron DeSantis’s far-right propaganda — he doesn’t protect freedom, he takes it away.”
He has also referred to the governor as “anti-freedom Ron.”
According to reports, Crist is set to unveil Karla Hernandez-Mats as his running partner on Saturday.
Hernandez-Mats is the head of the left-leaning teachers’ organization United Teachers of Dade. She has previously uploaded a cartoon on social media that appears to poke fun at parents; in the cartoon, a group of persons dressed in what appear to be terrifying Halloween costumes state that they are on their way to a school board meeting.
“For any of you following the school board meetings, you know that the craziness is real. God be with us. #antivaxxers #disinformation #misinformation” Hernandez-Mats tweeted last year when sharing the cartoon.
The re-election-seeking governor of California, Gavin Newsom, stated this week that he will donate $100,000 to support Crist.
Crist previously served as governor of Florida from early 2007 to early 2011, although he failed a 2010 run for the U.S. Senate as an independent after being elected as a Republican. As a Democrat, he lost the state’s 2014 gubernatorial election. Currently, Crist serves in the United States House of Representatives.
