Five people discovered dead in Texas town; suspect in custody
Officials announced Thursday that a suspect was taken into custody after five people were fatally shot in a small Texas town.
Charles “Doc” Anderson, a state representative, stated that a woman, her two children, and two neighbors were killed at a residence near McGregor, southwest of Waco.
The suspect was the mother’s spouse, according to Anderson, who characterized the incident as domestic violence.
He stated that the neighbors were slain when they went to the house after hearing gunfire.
Sgt. Ryan Howard of the state Department of Public Safety stated to reporters that the incident concluded with an officer shooting a weapon.
McGregor Mayor Jimmy Hering stated that neither the victims nor the perpetrator have been officially recognized by authorities. The suspect was taken into custody around 7:35 a.m. after police responded to a report of gunfire in a residential area, according to Hering.
“This heinous and senseless act of violence has destroyed our city,” Hering said, requesting prayers for the families, police officers, and community.
He stated that local police officers requested the Texas Rangers to handle the criminal investigation and examine the police shooting.
The surrounding Troy Independent School District canceled its middle school, freshman, and junior varsity football games against McGregor “due to the sad tragedy in the McGregor community tonight.”
According to the Waco Herald-Tribune, an Elon Musk-owned firm conducts rocket engine testing at a 4,300-acre SpaceX complex in McGregor, a community of approximately 5,500 people located midway between Austin and Dallas.
