Family of Idaho murder suspect Brian Kochberger supports son

The family of Idaho murder accused Brian Kochberger is supporting their son in an attempt to “promote his presumption of innocence,” they said Sunday in their first public statement.

Kochberger, 28, was arrested Friday at his family’s home in Pennsylvania for the November 13 stabbing of four University of Idaho students with fatal injuries.

His public defender Jason A. Labar released a statement on behalf of his parents and sister.

“We cooperated fully with law enforcement in an attempt to establish the truth and promote his presumption of innocence, rather than judging unknown facts and making erroneous assumptions,” the family said.

The Kobergers said they “will continue with the lawsuit and as a family we will love and support our son and brother.”

The family expressed their condolences to the four victims – students Kaylee Gonsalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin – saying that “there are no words that can adequately express our sadness, and we pray for them every day.”

“We respect privacy in this matter as our family and families experiencing loss can move forward through the legal process,” the three family members wrote.
