Family of a 13-year-old Omaha boy who was murdered on Wednesday recalls him as “always smiling and cheerful”
OMAHA. Nebraska — Near the intersection of 29th and Shirley Streets on Wednesday night, 13-year-old Lenny Rodriguez was found with a gunshot wound. He was sent to the hospital, where he passed away.
Thursday, family members came to the location to honor Lenny, sharing stories and recollections with 3 News Now.
Remembered as a humorous, compassionate eighth-grader at Ralston Middle School.
Lenny’s grandma, Kristine Williams, stated that Lenny had always been a bouncing, smiling, and joyful child.
Lenny’s family erected a memorial on Thursday afternoon, burning 13 candles, placing a cross with his name and image on it, and reciting prayers in his honor.
Williams stated, “Just honoring him, just honoring him, where he was placed to rest, just that.”
His aunt took the photograph on the crucifix on Wednesday.
Lenny comes from a large family and is one of 35 cousins, according to his aunt’s off-camera statement. She and her siblings reared their children as cousins, not as siblings.
“They are all extremely snug, they are all extremely snug. They all have a deep affection for one another. He cherished his mother with all of his heart. His elder brother has always been there for him. He has a little brother, and they adore one another “Williams stated.
His family does not know what transpired Wednesday evening.
“Hopefully, they’ll discover who did this or what it’s all about, but it’s all meaningless. Everyone must cease, “Williams urged.
Lenny and a portion of his family live in the neighborhood, but according to 3 News Now, they do not know why he was in the area where he was discovered.
As the family struggles to comprehend what has transpired, Lenny’s grandma hopes he will be remembered as a kind and loving child.
“Use this as an illustration. Our children are outside. They require love, support, and Jesus in their hearts because what is coming is not good “Williams remarked.
