Elderly Omaha man was the victim in the Tuesday’s fiery crash outside Denton, police released additional information

Lincoln, Nebraska – The 81-year-old Gary Olsen of Omaha was the victim in the fatal fiery crash that took place outside Denton in the early morning hours of Tuesday, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

According to the incident report, deputies were dispatched at the scene to the area of Southwest 98th & West Denton Road following a 911 call in regards to a grass on fire.

The initial call was received around 2:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Shortly after their arrival at the scene, deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office realized that a vehicle parked on the site of the road was on fire. They also found the victim’s body to a short distance from the vehicle.

Officials with the sheriff’s office in a later announcement confirmed that the body didn’t have injuries from the crash and the vehicle only suffered minor damage.

There is ongoing investigation which should reveal more details about the case.

Deputies are also working to discover how and where the fire started.

Local authorities contacted the victim’s family who didn’t know what their family relative was doing in the Denton area at all.

As a part of the investigation, Omaha Police Department and Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office are trying to obtain as much video surveillance material as possible to gather more information what happened prior to the incident.
