Dozens of drivers arrested and hundreds prosecuted during State Basketball weekend

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Nebraska). Nebraska State Troopers arrested 23 people for drunk driving and stopped 36 people for speeding at 100 mph or more during both NSAA state basketball weekends held in Lincoln.

From March 1 to March 4 and March 8 to March 11, military personnel across Nebraska worked to keep the roads safe during a busy tourist weekend. The effort was made possible by grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Office of Highway Traffic Safety.

Over the course of two weekends, police arrested 23 drivers for drunk driving and stopped 36 drivers for speeding 100 mph or more. In addition, the soldiers were punished:

  • 710 drivers for speeding
  • 22 drivers with open alcohol containers
  • 53 drivers were driving under suspension
  • 13 drivers without seat belts
  • 13 drivers with the wrong child restraint
  • 11 people with minors in the property

Over the course of two weekends, the military also assisted 311 motorists who needed assistance on the road.

“Congratulations to all the teams that won state titles and all the teams that did so this year,” said Colonel John Bolduc, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “We’d like to thank all the teams and their fans for helping keep Nebraska’s highways safe during a busy tourist weekend.”
