Depp’s lawyers: Amber Heard has no basis for complaint

Johnny Depp’s attorneys have stated that there is “no valid foundation” for Amber Heard’s request for a fresh trial in the defamation lawsuit.

The attorneys stated that the judgement in favor of the actor was “fully supported by overwhelming evidence and consistent with the law” and that the appeal “borders on frivolous.”

Amber Heard’s attorneys requested a retrial.

The backlash arose after the actress’ attorneys asked for a retrial, citing “improper juror service” and the fact that the verdict was not supported by the evidence provided during the six-week trial in Fairfax, Virginia.

Depp’s attorneys stated, “While obviously dissatisfied with the verdict, Ms. Heard has not identified any reasonable grounds to appeal the jury’s finding.” “Under Virginia law, a conviction cannot be overturned unless it is manifestly erroneous or unsupported by evidence,” they observe.

“Depp argues that the court should reject Ms. Heard’s appeal”
The opinion of Depp’s legal team is that “the conviction is fully backed by overwhelming evidence, is consistent with the law, and should not be overturned.” “Mr. Depp respectfully requests that the court dismiss Ms. Heard’s borderline frivolous appeal,” they said.

Depp is suing his ex-girlfriend for an opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018. She claimed in the text to have endured domestic violence as a woman, describing her experiences. According to Depp’s attorneys, the text inaccurately portrayed the star as a bully.
