Democrats lost him to Biden after he slapped D.C. Crime Bill: “DAMN AMATEUR HOUR”
In January, the District of Columbia City Council unanimously passed a crime bill that would reduce penalties for violent crimes such as auto theft and robbery.
Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser vetoed the bill, but the City Council overrode her veto by a vote of 12 to 1, according to Hill. Because the District of Columbia is not a state, legislation must be approved by Congress before it can be passed.
Last month, the House of Representatives voted 250-173 for permission to block changes to the D.C. penal code. Although a majority of Democrats voted against the measure, meaning they wanted the DC crime bill to become law, 31 caucus members voted for the Republican Party.
Speaking to Senate Democrats Thursday, the President Joe Biden showed that he would sign a resolution to strike down the D.C. bill. He previously announced plans to veto the measure.
According to The Hill, “The White House issued an Administrative Policy Statement opposing the resolution and supporting the District of Columbia… The OMB Declaration called on Congress to “respect the District of Columbia’s autonomy in the management of its local affairs.” ”
But after Thursday’s meeting, Biden reiterated that “if the Senate votes to reverse the D.C. Board’s decision, I will sign it.”
I support D.C. statehood and self-government, but I don’t support some of the changes the D.C. Council made over the mayor’s objections, such as reducing car theft fines.
If the Senate votes to reverse what the DC Council did, I’ll sign it.

As expected, House Democrats did not take Biden’s change of heart very well.
Is crime in America out of control?
In a text message to The Hill, one Democratic MP who wished to remain anonymous wrote: “The White House screwed up royally.”
The text went on to say, “So many of us Allies voted no to support what the White House wanted. And now we’re being hung out to dry. … HOUR OF AMATEUR MAN. THIS SHOULD TURN HEADS IN THE WHITE HOUSE.”
It was also said that Dr. democrats were “EXTREMELY pissed off”.
Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal said she was “deeply disappointed” by the president’s reversal. CNN.
In a statement to the network, she wrote, “The District of Columbia needs to be allowed to govern itself. The Democrats’ commitment to self-government must apply regardless of the substance of local legislation. That is why the Congressional Progressive Group and its members supported the creation of the state of Washington.”
Politico said that a vote on the resolution in the upper house could take place as early as next week.
With the hospitalization of the Democratic Sens. Dianne Feinstein from California, who has shingles, and John Fetterman Pennsylvania, who is being treated for clinical depression, the balance of power in the Senate is temporarily 49-49. Democratic Senator Joe Manchin has already announced that he plans to support the measure.
So, if everything stays the same, it really won’t take long to pass a resolution. Nobody wants to be considered leniency towards crimeespecially those facing voters next year.
The biggest shame is that it’s even a question.
