Dawson County officials meet on wind power regulations
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (Nebraska) — Dawson County held a joint meeting between county commissioners and the planning commission on Tuesday to discuss the baseline for new wind power zoning regulations to be put into place.
The goal of the meeting was to put both groups in the same mindset when drafting regulations to speed up the process. Most of the discussion centered around wind turbine placement setbacks, as well as road repair and turbine decommissioning. The commissioners based their guidelines primarily on regulations that other counties in the area have put in place.
“I propose at least a five-mile setback,” said Rod Reynolds, District 5 Commissioner. “Wheler County leveraged a five-mile setback, and today Buffalo County approved three miles to the owner nearest non-requesting landlord”.
The next planning commission meeting is scheduled for March 30 at the Lexington Annex Building. Public comment should be allowed during the meeting.
