Court documents reveal Winside’s teacher’s alleged affair with the student
LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska)-An affidavit and search warrant have revealed new details about what led to the arrest of a 25-year-old Winside teacher over her alleged affair with a 17-year-old male student.
Earlier this month, law enforcement with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the HHS hotline regarding Cali Heikes’ involvement in a potential sexual relationship with the student.
Following the call, an officer then returned to look into a recent traffic stop in which the victim was stopped as she left Winside Cemetery. At the time of the arrest, the deputy also took note of the other vehicle leaving the area, a black Chevrolet SUV.
The victim told the deputy she was hanging out with his friend “Cali” before being pulled over.
The license plates for the black Chevrolet SUV were registered to Heikes.
The deputy then went to speak to the victim’s legal guardians. According to the affidavit, the victim’s guardians told the deputy that their son had recently asked how they would feel if he was dating a 25-year-old.
In an interview with the victim’s sister about the potential affair, the affidavit states that the sister told law enforcement that Heikes allegedly sneaked into the victim’s home at night to have sex. She also told MPs that she believed the two met about two to three times a week in the city.
Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Jason Dwinell confirmed Heikes was arrested Sunday.
Dwinell said Heikes was committed to the Antelope County Jail but has since posted bail and been released.
Heikes’ photo was removed from the staff list on the Winside Public Schools website. She is a graduate of Winside High School and Wayne State College.
