Council Bluffs local authorities arrested Texas man on Thursday wanted for dozens of crimes

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – One of the most wanted offenders in Texas was just apprehended with the assistance of Council Bluffs Police.

Paul Anthony Basaldua, of McAllen, Texas, was detained in Council Bluffs on Thursday, according to the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force collaborated to locate and apprehend Basaldua in Iowa.

Police from Council Bluffs aided in the arrest. Basaldua was apprehended peacefully.

Basaldua was wanted for Aggravated Sexual Assault since August 2021, when the McAllen Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest. In later July 2022, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office issued a second warrant for Basaldua for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.

He is also supposedly a member of one of the major Hispanic and Latino street gangs, the Latin Kings.

Basaldua was convicted multiple times of multiple crimes between 2009 and 2017, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery, abandoning/endangering a child, unlawful possession of a firearm, terroristic threat, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft of property, vehicle burglary, and building burglary.
