Controlled burn evolved 800-acre wildfire at ranch near Possum Kingdom Lake
PALO PINTO COUNTY, Texas – Thursday afternoon, a controlled burn evolved into a wildfire on a ranch near Possum Kingdom Lake.
According to the Palo Pinto Volunteer Fire Department, the Set Ranch fire has grown to encompass 800 acres. Approximately 10% is contained.
The county of Palo Pinto requested mutual aid from neighboring agencies and the Texas A&M Forest Service.
The county has a burn prohibition in effect.
It is unclear whether this controlled burn was allowed.
Last week, eight homes in Possum Kingdom Lake were destroyed by a 500-acre wildfire that started when glass bottles magnifying sunlight in an open trash can ignited paper and other materials in the trash. The fire then spread and consumed 500 acres, destroying eight homes.
