Cigarette fires cause $13,000 worth of damage across Lincoln, authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska) – Lincoln Fire and Rescue says multiple cigarette fires have already caused $13,000 worth of damage this week.

We were told the first fire started just before 4pm on Monday.

They say a cigarette set fire to cardboard boxes at the Dollar Tree on Yankee Hill Road.

LFR tells Channel 8 there was $3,000 in damage to the exterior windows.

Officials say the second fire occurred in the bedroom of a modular home Tuesday morning, near North 19th Street and Northville Circle.

We were told that a discarded cigarette started the fire shortly after 1.20am

It caused $10,000 in smoke damage and displaced three people.
