Bed Bath & Beyond joins Dillard’s as the latest store to close
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (Nebraska) – Grand Island will say goodbye to another retailer in 2023. For the second time in two weeks, another major store is closing its doors.
Signs are announcing that Bed Bath & Beyond is closing with 10-30% off merchandise. The store is located in the Northwest Crossings Mall.
Local4 has contacted the Bed Bath & Beyond PR team to find out when the store will permanently close and is still awaiting a response.
The shutdown comes after the company reduced the number of its locations over the past year.
The other store to close on Grand Island is Dillard’s.
The location in the Conestoga Mall will close its doors by the end of March. Dillard’s has been at that location in the southwest corner of the mall since 1988, when they acquired Miller & Paine.
Julie Guymon, a company spokesperson, says it has offered its employees the option of relocating to other locations in the United States. There are two other Dillard’s stores in the state. Those are at Lincoln’s Gateway Mall and Omaha’s Oak View Mall.
Guymon added that any remaining merchandise not sold by the close will then be shipped to other locations.
Guymon can’t say for sure whether the mall’s redevelopment was the main factor in the closure, but he added that it could be one reason.
Woodsonia Acquisitions announced a $221 million investment in the mall to create the Conestoga Marketplace, which would include outdoor retailers, a hotel, housing option and a larger movie theater.
“It’s not our goal to close stores, but we do from time to time,” Guymon said.
He said they’ve been around for 85 years and have weathered many storms that other companies haven’t.
