Battle of the Bands contest at the Nebraska State Fair

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (Nebraska) – Musicians, listen up! If you’ve ever wanted to perform on the main stage at the Nebraska State Fair, you might just have your chance.

The application period for the inaugural Fairest Showdown: Battle of the Bands is now open and continues through March 17.

The grand prize is $2,000 and a chance to open for a concert on the main stage at the State Fair. Second place will receive $1,000 and a chance to open for a concert on the State Fair’s main stage, while third place will win $500.

“We are thrilled to bring the best local bands from across the state to the Fairest Showdown,” said Karli Schulz, Nebraska State Fair Entertainment and Events Director. “Music is such a big part of the Fair experience, as is celebrating the best of Nebraska. We look forward to further highlighting Nebraska musicians.

The Fairest Showdown is free to enter, but only amateur bands are allowed to participate. Each band must have at least three members, all 16 years of age or older. Each band must submit a recording of an original song and a cover.

The public and a judging panel will narrow entries to seven semi-finalists based on those entries.

The semifinalists will perform live at Hear Grand Island throughout the summer.

Five finalists will perform live at the State Fair itself in the Fairest Showdown Championship on Saturday, August 26, at the Pump & Pantry Party Pit.
