Aurora’s man faces charges again in a fatal vehicle-to-pedestrian crash

Aurora, Neb. (Nebraska) — An Aurora man is charged again following an incident last year that led to the death of a Phillips man.

Phillip Wiles, 50, is charged in Hamilton County District Court with one count of non-arrest and assist: death and one count of vehicular homicide.

The allegations stem from an accident that occurred on March 29, 2022 that resulted in the death of 31-year-old Alex Sohl.

Sohl was hit by a vehicle while walking on Highway 34 between Sunset Terrace and Phillips Spur after 10pm

The court case against Wiles was dismissed in November after the state failed to meet its burden of proof, Hamilton County Judge Lynelle Homolka said in court documents.

Hamilton County Attorney Doug Dexter reintroduced the charges in the District Court in a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.

Hamilton County District Court Judge Rachel Daugherty heard the case.
