Another beautiful day before winter returns
We are looking at another very beautiful day Tuesday in southeast Nebraska. The day again features a mix of sunshine and clouds, with temperatures in the high 50s. We expect highs in the low to mid-50s across the area. Tuesday should be a dry day in Lincoln.
That said, big changes to the weather pattern are coming soon. Winter storm warnings and winter weather warnings are ongoing in central and northern Nebraska Tuesday through Wednesday nights. Most of the snowfall is expected in the warning area.
Rain could start in northern Nebraska as early as Tuesday night, quickly transitioning to snow thereafter. The snow will continue in northern Nebraska on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, southeastern Nebraska remains dry for much of Tuesday night. Enough humidity arrives Wednesday morning to see freezing drizzle in some areas. However, a dry slot moves into southern Nebraska during the afternoon, which could dry things out for some time.
One last push of snow showers could sweep across central and southeastern Nebraska Wednesday night.
The vast majority of the snow will fall in northern Nebraska. There, it will build up from Tuesday night to Wednesday. The totals probably won’t be too impressive in southeast Nebraska. Up to 1″ is possible for these areas with any snow showers Wednesday night.
Since a freezing drizzle will be possible in southeast Nebraska, some ice accumulation may occur. Up to 0.1″ is possible in some areas.
THURSDAY COLD SNAP
Things will dry out on Thursday and it will be very cold. We expect a high near 18° in Lincoln. Wind will also be a factor. Subzero wind chill values will be possible in some areas on Thursday afternoon.
