Another baby elephant has been born at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha.
OMAHA, Neb. (Nebraska) — The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha is pleased to announce the birth of a male elephant calf on Thursday.
The calf was born at 2:20 am on March 2, 2023. The mother is Lolly, an 11-year-old African elephant, and the zoo reports that she and the calf are doing well.
This is the third African baby elephant born at the zoo. He will join half-siblings, Eugenia and Sonny, who were both born in January 2022. Callie, the father of all three calves, is 22 and joined the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha in 2019.
The zoo said in a press release that the elephant care team is monitoring Lolly 24 hours a day in anticipation of the birth.
Elephant family quarters will be temporarily closed to the public. Guests will have the opportunity to see all three elephants with a herd when they reopen.
The zoo is also awaiting the arrival of a fourth baby elephant, who is expected to join Jaya’s mother at the end of the summer.
