Abandoned homes in West Omaha demolished after multiple violations

OMAHA, Nebraska (Nebraska) — A busy corner in northwest Omaha looks better tonight, months after 6 On Your Side exposed a couple of dangerous eyesores.

Last November, nearby residents got into an argument with two nearby abandoned homes in the 168th Street and Bedford area.

One was torn down by a developer a few weeks later, but a second house, covered in graffiti, owned by a church group, is still standing.

After several notices of violations, the city hired a demolition contractor. The demolition of the house and the large outbuilding behind it cost taxpayers more than $23,000.

The property owner will be billed and if not paid, a lien may be placed on the corner lot.
