A mixture of nine herbs can significantly reduce blood sugar levels – study

Dietary interventions are usually the best weapon you can add to your arsenal of protection against high blood sugar caused by type 2 diabetes. However, new research suggests that “natural” supplements can also be quite effective in controlling blood glucose levels.

Complications of diabetes arise from impaired insulin production, which increases the risk of dangerously high blood sugar levels.

Therefore, it is extremely important to control the level of glucose in the blood.

Luckily, a study published in Diabetes Metabolism Research and Reviews suggests that a blend of nine herbs can do just that.

The natural supplement in question is called Curalin and is a blend of nine ingredients designed to balance blood sugar levels.

From bitter melon to turmeric and syzygium cumini to fenugreek, Curalin ingredients are traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat diabetes.

Working synergistically, the blend promises to provide an overall beneficial effect on blood sugar levels.

Dr. Sarah Brewer, Medical Dietitian, said: “As a result, users report that their glucose control improves rapidly, and in some cases returns to normal within four weeks.

“Users also report reduced cravings for sugary foods and improved energy, sleep, and overall quality of life.”

After studying 36 participants, the volunteers, divided into two groups, were asked to take curaline or a placebo three times a day for 30 days.

Participants were also asked to take seven glucose measurements once a week on the same day.

These measurements showed a “statistically” significant decrease in blood sugar levels in the curalin group.

Dr. Brewer said: “Those who took Kuralin showed a significantly greater improvement in HbA1c levels than those who took placebo.

“[They] there was also an overall reduction in mean blood glucose at all time points during the day compared to placebo.”

In addition, the reduction in HbA1c2 compared to the natural supplement was almost one percent (or 11 mmol/mol) in just one month.

According to two previous large-scale studies published by Diabetes.co.uk, this reduction for patients with type 2 diabetes is enough to:

  • Reduce the risk of amputation or death due to peripheral vascular disease by 43 percent
  • Reduce the risk of microvascular complications (retinopathy, neuropathy and diabetic nephropathy – kidney disease) by 25 percent
  • Reduce the risk of cataracts by 19 percent
  • Reduce the risk of heart failure by 16 percent.

Despite promising results, the study reported some limitations, including a relatively small sample of participants and a short time frame.

Before adding Kuralin to your diabetes protocol, the expert recommended talking to your doctor.

Dr. Brewer said: “Curaline is 100% natural and can be used safely with any medication or treatment.

“However, if you are taking any blood glucose-lowering medications, it is important to talk to your doctor and monitor your glucose levels, as you may need to decrease your medication as your blood sugar levels improve.

“As with any supplement, it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor before taking Kuralin.”
