6 First day of weather warning: snow and sleet before Thursday morning departure.

OMAHA, Nebraska (Nebraska) – Clouds and rain/drizzle from Wednesday afternoon will give way to sleet and possible freezing rain after sunset Wednesday evening. In the end, we will also see some snow at night. The amounts won’t be that big, but all of this could lead to a slippery Thursday morning ride, which is why we’ve made it Day 6 of the First Weather Warning.

Thursday 6 FAWD (woah)

I’m expecting less than 2 inches of snow on the subway, with little to no snow by the start of traffic on Thursday morning. However, temperatures will start in the 20s early and will gradually drop throughout the morning. Add in wind gusts up to 40 mph and it probably won’t be a good morning commute, especially in wide open areas.

In this case, the heaviest snow will be north of the metro. The most snow is likely to be near Norfolk and Wayne in our area.

Temperatures will drop from 20 to teens and stay that way until Thursday afternoon. Wind gusts up to 40 mph from the northwest will also bring temperatures down to single digits below zero. There won’t be much snow, but everything that falls will try to be carried along the roads in open areas. By Friday morning, the temperature will be in the range from -10 to -15, the wind will weaken.
