55-year-old Lincoln man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony for killing 61-year-old man

LINCOLN, Nebraska – In the early hours of Wednesday, a man was taken into custody on suspicion of murder in the second degree in connection with a homicide.

At approximately two in the morning on Wednesday, officers from the Lincoln Police Department were called to the area near the intersection of Third and P Streets in reference to a male who was discovered unresponsive in a field.

Lincoln Police Chief Teresa Ewins told reporters during a media briefing on Wednesday that upon on the site, investigators discovered the 61-year-old male, who was later identified as Ronald George Jr., deceased with multiple wounds, most likely caused by a bladed weapon.

According to Chief Ewins, William Wright, 55, of Lincoln was arrested and taken into jail on Thursday on charges of second-degree murder and the use of a deadly weapon to conduct a felony.

Wright was found by authorities on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. close to the intersection of North 1st and West Q Streets.

The Probable Cause Affidavit for Wright’s arrest states that George Jr. was discovered with many cuts near the chest and neck, and the police discovered a knife near his body. This information is based on the fact that George Jr. Interviews with witnesses led the police to find Wright.

According to the judicial records, When Wright went back to the People’s City Mission in the evening on Wednesday, the police questioned him after making contact with him and taking him away for questioning.

There is currently no information available regarding whether or not George Jr. and Wright were involved in a romantic relationship in the past.

Ewins also mentioned on Thursday morning that the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating another strange death, which is something that the investigation into Wright led them to find. According to Ewins, the corpse was discovered close to the intersection of NW 12th Street and West Bond, and investigators have been gathering evidence at the area since they arrived.

According to Ewins, further information would be revealed on Friday, but she did not elaborate on how the mysterious death is connected to the murder of George Jr. She stated only that additional details will be provided on Friday.

She did suggest that the unnatural death probably occurred before the murder of George Jr. on Wednesday morning.

On Thursday afternoon, Wright did, in fact, make his appearance before the Lancaster County County Court. His bond was established at 10 percent of the amount of $5 million dollars. The next time he will appear in court is on September 29.
