30-year-old New York City woman is accused of drowning her own children on a Coney Island beach
New York City, New York – According to the New York City Police Department, the bodies of three small children were discovered early on Monday morning on a beach in Coney Island. All of the youngsters had passed away. The mother of the children, who has been described as a woman in her 30s, was brought into custody by the authorities and is currently being questioned about the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the children at approximately 4:30 a.m. eastern time, according to the authorities.
A representative for the New York Police Department confirmed to CBS News that the children were unconscious and in critical condition when authorities arrived at the scene. According to the police, the ages of the children are seven years old, four years old, and three months old. A spokeswoman for the police department stated that they had gotten a call in the past from someone who speculated that the children’s mother had killed them by drowning them.
At a press conference held later on Monday, the authorities revealed their knowledge that all three children had been taken to a hospital, where they were subsequently pronounced dead. According to reports from CBS New York, the Chief of Department for the NYPD, Kenneth Corey, revealed that the police initially received a 911 call at approximately 1:40 a.m. from a concerned family member.
“The caller said that she was concerned that a member of her family may have caused harm to her three young children,” said Corey. “The caller mentioned that she was concerned.” According to CBS New York, he went on to say that the police were called and dispatched to the woman’s apartment building in Coney Island. There, a man who is believed to be the father of the children expressed similar concerns to the officers and told them that the woman and children could be on the boardwalk in the area.
After searching the residence for more than an hour, law enforcement officials received a second call at approximately three in the morning. According to Corey, the woman was discovered soaked and without shoes, and her children were nowhere to be located.
“The officers discovered three children, a 7-year-old male, a 4-year-old female, and another female who is approximately three and a half months old, on the shoreline here at the water’s edge on West 35th Street in Coney Island,” Corey said, as reported by CBS New York.
