12 cases of omicron confirmed in Bulgaria

Sofia, 2 January 2022 (MIA) – The presence of the omicron variant of the coronavirus has been confirmed in 12 people of different ages, said the Chief State Health Inspector of Bulgaria, Angel Kunchev, based on tests performed at the National Center for Infectious Diseases.

According to the MIA correspondent from Sofia, the new strain was discovered in nine men and three women. Seven of them were not vaccinated, and the other five were fully immunized nine months ago.

According to Kunchev, the omicron can be expected to spread significantly faster in Bulgaria and is likely to become dominant in the country.

In the past 24 hours in Bulgaria there are 1,076 newly infected with coronavirus, which is 14.5% of the tests performed.

“Of all the positive samples, 4.4 percent have confirmed the presence of the omicron strain,” said the chief state health inspector.

Only one of those infected with the new variant of the virus traveled to Britain, from where he recently returned.
